WPBL Mid-Season Report: Standings, Stat Leaders & Standout Players

The Women's Pro Baseball League's first-ever regular season is down to its final two weeks, and the inaugural race has a clear leader. With the four-team, 30-game slate wrapping up September 6 at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, IL, the San Francisco Firebells have pulled away from the pack — and a handful of hitters and arms have separated themselves as the names to know before the WPBL's first postseason begins.

Where the standings stand

All four WPBL clubs make the postseason in Year One, so nothing left on the schedule eliminates anybody — but every game still matters for seeding. The top seed will face the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed will face No. 3 in best-of-three semifinals starting September 9, with the champion crowned in a best-of-five series on September 16.

Standings as of August 23, 2026. San Francisco has claimed the inside track on the No. 1 seed, with New York and Los Angeles still sorting out the middle of the bracket.

Stat leaders at the two-thirds mark

New York's Denae Benites has been the league's most complete hitter through the first two-plus months, topping the WPBL in batting average (.658), RBIs (25), and hits (25) while sharing the home run lead. On the mound, San Francisco's pitching staff has carried its offense-plus record:

Standout players to watch down the stretch

Kelsie Whitmore, the WPBL's first overall pick in the league's inaugural draft, has backed up the billing — sharing the home run lead, sitting inside the top five in batting average, and anchoring the lineup for the league's best team. San Francisco's Jill Albayati has been just as central to that success, running away with the league's ERA title and giving the Firebells a true ace as the playoff picture sets. New York countered with its own two-way threat in Benites, whose all-around line makes her the strongest early case for the league's inaugural MVP conversation, backed by strikeout leader Jaida Lee giving the Heights a stopper of their own. And with the draft class still writing its first chapter, all eyes remain on how No. 10 pick Mo'ne Davis and the rest of the rookie class close out Year One as the league heads toward its first-ever champion.

Two weeks of regular-season baseball remain before the seeding locks in. Check back as the Firebells, Heights, Queens, and Hunters play out the string — and the WPBL's first postseason field takes shape.
