All four WPBL clubs are locks for the league's first-ever postseason — every team makes it in a four-team field — so with the regular season winding down toward its September 6 finish line, the only thing left to settle is seeding. And right now, the middle of the bracket is a lot more interesting than the top of it.
Where the standings stand
| Team | W | L | Win % | GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| San Francisco Firebells | 6 | 4 | .600 | — |
| New York Heights | 6 | 5 | .545 | 0.5 |
| Los Angeles Queens | 6 | 6 | .500 | 1 |
| Boston Hunters | 4 | 7 | .364 | 2.5 |
Standings as of August 28, 2026.
How the bracket sets up
San Francisco still holds the No. 1 seed at 6-4 (.600), but the race behind them has tightened into the closest storyline left in the regular season. New York (6-5, .545) sits just half a game back in the No. 2 spot, with Los Angeles (6-6, .500) one game behind that for No. 3 — meaning the semifinal matchups could still flip either way. Boston (4-7, .364) trails by 2.5 games and is running out of room to climb into the mix, with the postseason bracket set to lock in before the best-of-three semifinals begin September 9 (the champion is then crowned in a best-of-five series starting September 16).
If the seeds hold as they stand today, the semifinal pairings would be San Francisco vs. Boston (1 vs. 4) and New York vs. Los Angeles (2 vs. 3) — but with the No. 2 and No. 3 spots this tight, that matchup could easily flip before September 6 locks it in.
Check back as the final week and a half of the WPBL's inaugural regular season play out — and the league's first-ever playoff bracket takes its final shape.
